During heavy-spatter welding, hot metal and slag can fall onto the hoses connecting the rear of the welding torch to the equipment, creating hazards such as gas leakage. At the same time, torch cables are frequently dragged across concrete floors and steel edges as welders move around the work area, causing abrasion and wear.

Welding cable covers protect torch cables, gas hoses and connection points from both sources of damage, forming a barrier against sparks, slag, hot particles and mechanical friction. Depending on the model, the covers are made from split cowhide, pigskin or flame-resistant canvas to provide different combinations of durability, flexibility and weight.

Whichever material is used, DuPont Kevlar flame-resistant thread reinforces the construction. Its resistance to heat and tensile stress makes the seams less likely to burn through or split in high-temperature welding environments. A zipper or hook-and-loop closure along the side makes the cover quick to install and remove, while enclosing loose cable runs also reduces tangling and friction, easing cable handling during work.
